$550 includes all the original factory accessories plus the extras noted above. When comparing with buying a new laptop, be sure to add in the costs for all the peripherals and adapters that are included with this.
New Battery:
Batteries degrade over time, and most 2.5-year old iBooks will only have ~2-2.5 hours of battery life. I had this battery replaced under Apple/Sony's Battery Recall in October, so you will get 4+ hours of battery life. The screenshot (5.5 hours!) is a bit optimistic, but you can definitely get 4+ hours with a little of battery management (e.g. turn Airport off and reduce screen brightness). If you leave Airport on and the screen brightness at max, you will still get 3.5+ hours of battery life.
Why AppleCare?
Buying a used Mac with AppleCare guarantees that you will get a good machine with no manufacturing flaws of defects. This particular iBook has had no known problems, and there are no dead or stuck pixels on the screen. AppleCare also comes with TechTool Pro (installed and updated) for troubleshooting common problems. Here's the TechTool Deluxe Hardware Report.
AppleCare is fully transferable (it covers the machine by serial number, regardless of the owner), and it also covers an Apple Base Station used with the iBook. If you have a broken ABS, you can actually use AppleCare on this iBook to get it replaced by Apple! If you are a serious inquirer, email me and I will provide you with the iBook serial number so you can verify coverage with AppleCare.
Airport Wireless Networking:
The iBook has an Apple Airport card installed. This model of iBook is the "gold standard" for wireless reception. It outperforms ever other laptop on the market for range and reliability.
Factory Box:
"Your" iBook will be packed in an original Apple factory box with the original styrofoam inserts, etc.
Tech Support:
After delivery, I will provide 30 days of technical support by email or phone. I am a very experienced Mac user, including experience integrating with Windows machines, working with wired and wireless networks, installing printers, printing wirelessly, installing unsupported printers, etc. I am the network administrator at work, and I also provide daily tech support for two parents, two brothers, one wife, and an assortment of friends and extended family. I also run a Mac support website for older Macs. I can assure you that this iBook will be a good investment and a good ownership experience!
Pick it up from my home in Palos Verdes evenings or weekends, or from my anywhere near my Torrance office weekdays over lunch. I'll give you a quick demo to show you everything works! Call my cell at 818-620-3062 or email steven@kan.org.
Optional Extras:
Extra battery:
We have another, brand-new battery for this iBook. It came along with the replacement battery under Apple's battery recall, and it has fewer than 10 charge/discharge cycles on it. $50.
Car Adapter:
This adapter allows your MacBook to run/charge off your car's cigarette lighter.
Waterfield Designs Sleevecase with Piggyback:
This elegant, stylish sleevecase was made specifically for this model of iBook. It protects it well while adding very little bulk. If you already have a backback or briefcase, the shoulder strap unclips and turns this into just a sleeve for the iBook.
The "piggyback" clips/unclips onto the D-rings, too, and provides a perfect place to stow a power adapter and a couple of miscellaneous accessories.
This sleevecase is very clean and shows almost no wear.
Full-sized laptop bag:
If you need to carry more stuff, this brand-new laptop bag will hold the iBook plus all your peripherals, notepads, checkbooks, doodads, etc. This bag is brand new, and has never seen the outside of our closet!
